Work in Progress Pic

DSC_0156[1]

Heeey I have continued my work on my ball jointed doll project. I’ve decided to post one work in progress picture although I don’t really like this picture. Obviously the torso of the ball jointed doll to be isn’t right this way, but after all it’s called work in progress, meaning I am just giving you an insight in my unfinished work and will still work on the torso.

The material I used is Chavant Clay in Medium. I used a hair dryer to get the plasticine clay soft. Before I always kneaded the clay in my hands but the process was waaay faster as I started using heat.

2012 in review

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2012 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

600 people reached the top of Mt. Everest in 2012. This blog got about 6,700 views in 2012. If every person who reached the top of Mt. Everest viewed this blog, it would have taken 11 years to get that many views.

Click here to see the complete report.

🙂 so writing this blog gets readers after all 🙂

My Chavant Clay has arrived!!=)

Yesterday my chavant clay NSP arrived and I am curious about how the work with this clay will turn out.

I ordered it in soft, because I read that chavant is a plasticine that comes in grades that are way harder than regular plasticine or Polymer Clays like Super Sculpey. Reasons why I think the clay may turn out to be perfect for me are:

  • It contains no sulphur, meaning I could use silicon molds in future if I wanted to
  • Plasticine never gets hard and can be reused over and over again (=more economic, plus I save some money)
  • The hard texture will allow me to carve things out of the clay
  • The soft texture while it’s warm will make it easy for me to sculpt, to add or remove things here and there etc.

These are the main reasons why I finally chose to buy this clay. I used Cernit Polymer Clay before but didn’t like the odour while baking it in the oven and I experienced some difficulties while sculpting. (But I love the look of Cernit objects, especially dolls, so I might experiment further with it another time)

That’s all for today, I’ll write to tell you about the first impression of the clay in my next post. Have a nice day!

New Chapter :Chavant clay

Yes, I know I’ve been gone for a long time. And I apologize for this. There’s been some changes, I had a lot of work to do and a lot on my mind…but between those thoughts I constantly had to think of my doll project.

So basically, I have the feeling that my old project didn’t really satisfy me and I am out of the proces because I have not done anything for a while.

What I am going to do now is start over new (oh again?) and this time with

chavant clay.

Its not a big deal for me to try something else, because I know I will continue with the cernit clay another time (It’s not like I am going to throw away the material, it was expensive). And I don’t think I could go any further with my old ways, so I gotta start over fresh.

So dear readers, I am back!! And this time It will be the last time I start over new. If I don’t succeed making a prototype doll this time I guess I will stop.

As soon as I get the ordered plastiline clay I will write about my experience with it!.

Making my own ball jointed doll. The basic torso

My process is going slowly. Very slowly. Too slowly.

Why? Because I’m new to doll making and new to polymer clay, so I still have to figure out some stuff. And it is frustrating, which keeps me from working on the doll regularly.

cernit doll side viewSo, because I am not satisfied at the moment, I will just show you a side view of the torso.

Last time I just had the lower torso finished, but I now added the upper torso, with the chest, shoulders and a neck.

Keep in mind, that I am only showing the basic form, details will be made later on.

And I am only showing what I think is okay. The back and front view is not to my satisfaction yet.

If you want to read my post about the lower torso, click here

Something new.My first guest post

My first guest post.

Just had my first guest post on another artists blog. I like reading art blogs with similar topics and generally enjoy writing in a community of artists that are into doll making. That is why some weeks ago I had the idea to guest blog to just try out something else.I then asked Lauren Brevner, she is an artist who writes about her process. She has a nice blog were she posts work in progress pictures of her drawings and also sculptures, you should check it out.

I think it was a good idea, sometimes its good to just try out something new. You can check out my article here, its about creativity and motivation. Comments are welcome! And make sure you have a look at Lauren Brevners blog in general.

Quote Leonardo da Vinci

Time stays long enough for anyone who will use it.”

I like to add quotes of artists to my blog if they said something worth remembering. Today it’s this quote of Leonardo da Vinci that touched me and should get some space in my art blog.
